Folman is Israeli, at that time a 19 years old soldier and today, a film director that makes use of cinema to exorcise ghosts and to ask himself how could he possibly forgot about it... Staggering, more than the intense battles are the quite moments within the war, where the psychological pressure rises up in a subliminal way, showing its omnipresence. The night scene, in which the main characters rise up slowly from the cobalt sea, staring to the decaying buildings enlightened by the yellow light of the flares...besides its exquisite visual beauty it is paradigmatic of this latent tension, of this foreseen, anticipated slaughter...
