(ENG)  We have been helping our good friends from blaanc to organize a drawing auction to get funds to the Adobe for Women association. The money obtained will help to finish  20 sustainable houses in the indigenous village of San Juan Mixtepec, in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca.
Adobe for Women is a non-profit association, founded in 2011, whose goal is the recovery and education of earth construction techniques; this is our contribution to a more human and sustainable use of space and the planet’s resources.

/// UMA - ULTRA MARATONA ATLÂNTICA

“UMA – Ultra Maratona Atlântica”
Directed by Carlos Gomes and Fran Lopez Reyes
Photography by Miguel Robalo
Original Soundtrack by Ricardo Webbens

(ENG)  'UMA – Atlantic Ultra Marathon, is a 43km marathon passing through the sandy beaches of Tróia, a Peninsula in the south of Portugal. This coast, one of the wildest, with the least human intervention in Europe, is the set for a unique competition with an impressive record of 2h 51m.
A territory of rare natural beauty, with a coastline stretched along the Atlantic Ocean as far as the eye can see. For the majority of the athletes, the only objective is to reach the end and to inscribe in their bodies that distance, which defines, in itself, the whole territory.
The installation constructs a scenographic memory of the territory following the choreographies and the routs of the athletes. The triptych works as an intensifier, enlarging possibilities of perception and forming a horizon of image, immersing the viewer in the psychological time of the journey.'

/// JOHN WOOD AND PAUL HARRISON

(ENG) 'The camera of 10 x10 slowly scrolls down a 100-storey building, going from one floor to the one below, looking through the windows, room after room. The result looks like a strip of film. The rooms are often occupied by an ordinary office worker. It is always the same guy and he is wearing a suit. A pair of Dr Martens betray the fact that he might not want to be there, with a pie chart as his sole companion. He is very probably the most bored office worker you could come across. He kills the hours cycling within the confine of his office room, hiding behind furniture, crafting paper planes, launching paper planes, inflating a swimming pool mattress, dressing up as a cowboy, Spiderman or a knight Templar, etc.He might also be the one who arranges plastic office chairs into sculptures or perfectly symmetrical installations.'

(ENG) Architectural Environments for Tomorrow: New Spatial Practices in Architecture and Art

'The spread of computerization and urbanization since the beginning of the twenty-first century has given birth to new lifestyles and forms of public space. This exhibition will look at the way in which architects and artists respond to environmental and urban problems, demographic growth and change, as well as other transformations in our surroundings, expressing them through their ideas and experiments in spatial structure. The spaces they create introduce people to new experiences or approaches, exposing the latent possibilities that may exist in the environment. The metaphors of the world-views suggested by the artists resonate with the practical proposals of the architects, presenting images of future ‘humanity’ from a variety of differing angles.'

/// EXHIBITIONS YOU SHOULDN'T MISS

(ENG) Experimenta Design Biennale in Lisbon is approaching the end and there are two exhibitions that you shouldn´t miss. If you are around and have the opportunity go and have look at

1 OCT - 27 NOV
Fundação Arpad Szènes-Vieira
Jardim das Amoreiras
Mãe d'Água

"Since the dawn of time, man’s greatest dreams, challenges and, ultimately, accomplishments have materialised in works of infrastructure. From Babylonian hydraulics to the geoengineered archipelagos of the twenty-first century, great infrastructural works represent the apex of design complexity and achievement—and often, by virtue of their sheer magnitude, the most tangible expression of a culture’s development, ambition and might. Canals, power plants, fortifications, reclaimed lands, particle accelerators, aqueducts, suspension bridges, dams: infrastructure is justifiably held up as the register of society’s collective accomplishment and the historical benchmark of its leaders’ enlightenment."
29 SEPT - 27 NOV
Antigo Convento da Trindade

“Fernando Brízio: Inhabited Designs” constitutes the first retrospective of one of the foremost Portuguese designers of today. His consistent and consciously crafted production, exhibited and published both nationally and internationally, hinges upon the challenging relationship between object and user, and the creation of multi-dimensional projects that evoke several functions and readings. This exhibition provides an intimate and unconventional look at this designer. Encompassing the entire period of his professional activity since 1993, it presents several projects in different stages of development and their respective creative processes, but also biographical notes, documentary interviews (conducted by his daughter, director Salomé Lamas), films that inspire him and books. Thus, the exhibition features multiple formats such as animations, original drawings, catalogues, photographs, models, and, of course, objects. It also incorporates video content and texts by experts from different areas."

/// INGLENOOK

Catherine Hyland (image) and John Steele (sound), Inglenook

ENG - 'Inglenook' shows the outcome of an industrial process. Made in response to the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in April - May 2010, which caused enormous disruption to air travel across Western and Northern Europe, the piece hopes to create a seductively sinister husk of the former event. A poetic meditation of the prodigious but overlooked where the mirrored imagery of a natural event is echoed within our man-made environment.'
